On September 28, 2012, the Beacon Social Recreation Committee will host the Jersey City-Beacon History Event to pay homage to the present and past history of Jersey City. It will take place at the Beacon’s Great Room at 7 p.m. The event will kick off with welcoming remarks by Mayor Healy and Councilwoman Michele Massey. There will be a screening of the documentary Jersey City: 24 Hours in Public Places. The half-hour documentary depicts life all over Jersey City at different locations, at different times to highlight the historical sites and unexpected gems. After the screening, there will be a roundable discussion with the New Jersey City University students who produced the documentary to discuss their experiences and answer questions. In addition, author Leonard Vernon will give a lecture on the history behind the Jersey City Medical Center. Light refreshments will be provided.
