Dear Editor:

I am writing to ask Second Ward residents vote for Beth Mason for City Council on Tuesday, May 8th. As you know, Richie Del Boccio is retiring after almost half a century of public service, which means that the seat is open.

Beth did not ask me to endorse her. I am doing this because the May 8th Council election is very important, and I firmly believe that Beth Mason is the better Second Ward candidate.

I have known Beth for many years. She and her husband decided a long time ago to plant their roots and raise their family here. Beth is active in many good local causes - the Jubilee Center, our schools, the Rotary and the historical museum, to name a few. As chair of the Master Plan subcommittee, she gained extensive experience in development, traffic and parking issues. Her "open government" groups in Hoboken and statewide have made it easier and cheaper for all of us to find out what our elected officials are doing. Beth has been a constant presence at City Hall and around town to try to keep Hoboken moving forward.

Beth is a fighter. When she sees something that she thinks is wrong, she works day and night to fix it. But she is also a listener. She brings in all parts of the community - new and old - to do the right thing for Hoboken.

I have also known Beth's opponent, Richard Tremitiedi, for most of my life. When I was Mayor, Richard was the fire chief under me. Richard was a good fireman and civil servant, but I think Beth is more qualified for Council. She has the breadth of experience and the energy that the Second Ward needs in order to protect the interests of the neighborhood.

Please vote for Beth Mason on Tuesday, May 8th. Thank you.

Yours truly,
Steve Cappiello
