Bayonne Gold wins girls’ championship

Bayonne Gold and Diamonds took the Bayonne PAL Intermediate Girls’ Division Championship for the second year in a row recently. Coaches Tony Lenardo and Vinnie Masciale guided their team to a come-from-behind defeat over Mackenzie Post, 16-14.

Mackenzie took a 4-1 lead in the first quarter and led 8-4 at halftime. Bayonne Gold closed the gap in the third quarter to 14-10. Then Bayonne Gold shut out their opponents 6-0 to clinch the championship. Dionna Lenardo led all scorers with 9 points. Alexis Nunez scored 4, and Delissa Reyes had one point.

Maegan Duran led Mackenzie with 8 points; Emma Freyer scored 4; and Allie Duran had 2 points.
