More arrests made in IMTT alleged fraud case

Bayonne police have confirmed that more arrests have been made in the ongoing probe into alleged fraud by workers at International Matex Tank Terminal, which operates bulk liquid chemical storage in Bayonne.

This is the second round of arrests that are connected to an alleged check writing scheme that may have netted as much as $400,000, as reported by various media outlets.

Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said these arrests and those that took place in March will shortly be presented to a grand jury to determine if indictments will be forthcoming.

A spokesperson for the Bayonne Police Department confirmed that three more people have been arrested in the investigation, including Gregory M. Pace, 42, of Warren Township; Sueann A. Oleski, 30, of Bayonne; and John A. Doering, 40, of Mountainside.

Oleski was released with a summons, while the other two, officials said, were released on bail.

Pace, an employee of the union working at the facility, was charged with theft by deception, receiving stolen property, money laundering, conspiracy to launder money, and misconduct by a corporate official.

Doering was charged with money laundering, conspiracy to launder money, receiving stolen property, and theft by deception.

Oleski, who works at a local beauty salon, has been charged with theft by deception.

Police Chief Robert Kubert said he could not otherwise comment on an ongoing investigation.

Two men charged after an alleged fight

Flenzy B. Carrigan, 20 and Xristain O. Pantotas, 19, both of Bayonne, were charged with aggravated assault on April 21 after police responded to East 12th Street at about 11 a.m., according to the report of a fight.

The police report said the officers arrived to find a 23-year-old male on the ground bleeding profusely from the area of his left eye. He had no shirt on and was covered in blood. He was going in and out of conscious, a police spokesperson said.

The victim was transported to Jersey City Medical Center. Carrigan and Pantotas were sent to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny.

Teen charged with robbery

A 17-year-old Bayonne boy was charged with robbery after he allegedly threatened violence against a 16-year-old, while allegedly also stealing the 16-year-old’s iPhone on April 25.

A police spokesperson said the 16-year old was walking east on 13th Street from Kennedy Boulevard towards Avenue C when he was approached by two boys. The 17-year-old allegedly grabbed the iPhone of out the boy’s hand and threatened bodily harm if he tried to do anything about it. Then, police said, the 17-year-old and his companion fled. The victim called the police and said he had a tracking application on the phone. The police tracked the device to a location at 25th Street and Broadway, where they found two boys fitting the description and the phone in the possession of the 17-year-old, who was charged with robbery and sent to the Hudson County Youth Facility in Secaucus.

In the park after dark leads to a drug bust

Eric Bergstrom, 24, of Jersey City, was charged with possession of marijuana on April 25 after a patrol car spotted his car parked in the Gorman Field parking lot after lot was closed.

A police spokesperson said that area is closed to the public after dark, and so the patrol officers approached the vehicle, and reported smelling the scent of burned marijuana in the car. The police report said the officers allegedly found a bag containing suspected marijuana on Bergstrom’s lap and a suspected partly smoked marijuana cigarette on the front seat.

The police said they also found a Dutch Master’s cigar in the car.

Bergstrom was charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams and possessions of drug paraphernalia – the cigar.

The 21-year-old passenger in the car was not charged.
