NORTH BERGEN AND BEYOND - Around 10:20 a.m. on Thursday, officers responded to the area of 78th Street and River Road on a report of a possible body in the water. A man who was working on an air conditioning unit on the roof of Waterside Restaurant saw what he believed to be a body in the Hudson River, officials said.

Lt. Patrick Irwin from the North Bergen Police Department said the body is of a 76-year-old unidentified caucasian male and was pulled from the water around noon.

According to Lt. Irwin, North Hudson Regional Fire used one of their rescue boats to retrieve the body from the water. The agencies that responded were North Hudson Regional Fire, North Bergen Police, County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit, Hudson County Sheriff’s Department, North Bergen EMS, Jersey City Medical Center Paramedics, and the Medical Examiner’s Office.

No family has been notified yet of the victim’s death.

“At this point it’s still an ongoing investigation still pending notification to the family,” said Lt. Irwin.
