“We have cleared another step in the process of streamlining services for our residents and taxpayers,” said Mayor Steven Fulop. “Our goal was to ensure as seamless a transition as possible for Parking Authority employees as we bring the function into City government and this will facilitate that.”
The state approval allows the city to move forward with the dissolution of the autonomous agency and bring the function into the municipal operations. The enforcement duties of the Parking Authority would become part of an Enforcement Division within the Department of Public Safety.
While enforcement will be handled under the Department of Public Safety, many of the administrative functions such as payroll and the administration of health benefits would be absorbed by the city staff already performing these duties. The maintenance of Parking Authority lots, for example, could be performed by the City’s Department of Public Works.
