Woman arrested in shooting death of 12-year-old; apparent motive was robbery

JERSEY CITY – A Rahway woman has been charged in the shooting death of a 12-year-old boy who was killed last Friday night on Rutgers Avenue, according to NJ.com.

According to the site, robbery was the alleged motive behind the incident, which left the seventh grader dead and his father with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Two other alleged suspects, both men, are still being sought in crime.

According to news reports, 12-year-old Gywan Levine Jr. and his father, Gywan Levine Sr., were walking on Rutgers Avenue last Friday night shortly before 10 p.m. when they were approached by someone who allegedly fired three shots. At least one shot hit the boy in his chest near one shoulder. He later died from his injury at Jersey City Medical Center.

The female suspect who has been arrested has been charged with felony murder, according to NJ.com, in addition to two counts of armed robbery and fraudulent use of a credit card. Bail has been set for her at $250,000 on the murder charge and $100,000 on the robbery charges.
