A whole lot of quarters

Dear Editor:

What? You mean to tell us that a man stole well over a million dollars in coins from Hoboken's parking meters between 2005 and 2008, and nobody caught him? (Hoboken Reporter, May 3). A million dollars! That's a lot of coins that went missing. Nobody in City Hall supervised this man? Isn't there a rough monthly average of the coins turned in, which, if drastically reduced, would arouse suspicion? Maybe if City Hall wasn't so busy writing tickets for cars parked a couple of feet past the painted-yellow curbs (which robbed us of four parking spaces per block) they could keep a closer watch on the important things.

You can ask Mayor Roberts why city hall did not mention it, and why they would choose a sham outfit like "United Textile Fabricators LLC" to collect the coins.

But the reduction in the receipts from the meters was noticed and raised in city council meetings by none other than Mike Russo. Within a few weeks he and his aunt were saying "it was cleared up". Go ask Mike Russo and Teresa Castellano what was cleared up.
