Founded in 1983, The Hudson Reporter publishes nine weekly newspapers, capturing the highest home-delivered circulation of any newspaper in Hudson County. Our award-winning periodicals also include specialty publications and two, glossy magazines: Jersey City Magazine and Palisade.

The past few years have brought tremendous change to the western banks of the Hudson River.

As newcomers flock to the area and explore their surroundings, long-time residents are meeting their neighbors - and discovering new opportunities - at every turn.

Luxury developments line the riverbanks, and boutiques, restaurants and art galleries are opening every week. Young families fill the streets with baby carriages. Empty nesters and young artists wait together for trains running along the expanding light rail system.

But change can be hard. Transformation does not come easily.

How does one gain a sense of community in a new and evolving place? Where can you turn for resources, entertainment and a bird's-eye view of our home along the Hudson?

We created hudsonreporter.com to answer some of those questions, yet we hope it will do more. We'd like our site to be a sort of meeting place a town square, if you will, where you can read about the people, politics and places that make living here so exciting.

Brave Germans and brave Japanese soldiers died to make VE and VJ day possible. We helped them die, and they helped us. For nothing. They had to kill or be killed.

Screw celebrations of bravery that intend to belong to any one nation.

Dear to whom it may concern,

I am writting this letter due to the lack of service and treatment my husband and I experienced while having my child at Palisades/Hackensack hospital. I came in Monday April 25th 2016 for my C section. The operation was smooth and successful but the days to come were not. They told me i would have to stay until Thursday April 28th 2016. First off i requested and were told i would have a private room which i didnt receive. The toilet was clogged since i have arrived and fixed not only once but twice during my stay. Due to the previous patient before me. The toilet wasnt fixed until wednesday afternoon. I was forced to have to use the toilet in that condition with stool and urine that was not mine in the toilet bowl. That was stuck within the plumbing prior to Wednesday afternoon. My husband stayed with me everyday because he is a loving father and husband but they made him feel as if he was wrong for being here and staying with me. The first night they told him he wasnt able to stay with me which was absurd and rude. We ask to speak with someone and couple minutes later they return and informed us that he would be able to stay. The only thing was that he would have to leave if another woman who gave birth were placed in our room and refuse to let my husband stay then he would be forced to leave. Then we requested for something for him to sleep on or even a pillow and they refused to give us anything. Then threatned my husband by saying if he sleeps on the bed directly next to me that was empty, they would call security. That my husband has to sleep on an uncomfortable chair that is meant to sit only with no pillow. He should not feel like he was wrong for staying with me in my time of need and to be with me and his daughter. He felt unwanted and wrong for being at hackensack/palisades hospital with his newborn and disabled wife. I need someone to please contact me back at my cell phone 2018987637 or email address at andreacm@live.com. A couple who just had a newborn baby should be happy and feel welcomed but instead we felt like a bother and unwanted by the hospital and staff. The only lady that i give any credit to is a nurse aid named betty which also informed me that the nurses make her do all the work while they sit back and relax. These concerns and conditions need to be addressed and taken care of.

Thank you

Diva for a Day

April 15, 2016
Diva For A Day Foundation, Inc., co-founded by Debbie Sestokas and Peggy Matzen, was created to give women who are battling cancer an opportunity to escape from the day-to-day stresses they face.  As Peggy explains, “When someone is dealing with cancer, it is so all consuming.  We wanted to give these women a little escape from it all; a day to forget about doctor's’ appointments and treatments, a day to feel special.” Debbie Sestokas says, “The Diva for a Day program brings light into the hearts of those who are chosen and joy to everyone that

gives.”

Diva For A Day Foundation currently has approximately 50 salon/spas nationwide, including Hair Cult and Marma Day Spa in Hoboken, NJ. The salon/spa generously treats the Divas to a manicure, pedicure, facial, massage, blow-out and a makeup application. To qualify,  a nominee should be recently diagnosed, currently in treatment, or no more than six months out from the completion of their treatment. To learn more about Diva For A Day and the participating salons, to nominate a deserving Diva, or to view testimonials from past Divas, please visit www.divaforaday.org

We hope you will consider a feature story about Diva For A Day. Such a story would help us spread  love and joy to all who need it while acknowledging the local salon/spas that have been so generous in their participation. If you would like to arrange an interview with Debbie and Peggy or are interested in visiting a participating salon on an upcoming Diva Day, please contact us at press.divaforaday@gmail.com or 908-625-7350.

For the past 5 years i have attempted to tell my story, this is my allegation will be presented to a gran jury. My name is Byron Greene and I am a 25 year disabled veteran, retired from the US Naval Armed Forces.

I am a victim of retaliation due to my role as a whistleblower of the misconduct among certain fellow officers in the US military while I served.

I am requesting that an investigation into my allegations of retaliation perpetrated against me be opened and if applicable, a grand jury be impaneled to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to indict any and all participants to said retaliation.

I allege that I was poisoned at least four times in retaliation for reporting misconduct of an officer against a subordinate.

I allege that two or more persons conspired, and/or were participants, and/or had knowledge of the poisonings.

I allege that my private residence was illegally wire-tapped after I reported said misconduct of fellow officers.

I allege that the information gotten from the illegal wire-tap was used in an attempt to discredit, torment and possibly drive me to suicide.

I allege that two or more individuals conspired to have me drugged and sexually assaulted in retaliation of my reporting said misconduct.

I allege that as a result of these poisonings I have been diagnosed with multiple forms of cancer.

I affirm that I have reported each of these incidents to the proper authority in a timely manner.

Do you know that most of the donations received at the Hoboken shelter are screened by staff so they can take all new clothing for themselves. this is an ongoing problem where entire bags of clothing, housewares etc, are being taken by staff members and NEVER given to the clients they are supposedly serving. Why does no one look into the corruption of the Hoboken Homeless Shelter? the answer is because, in the eyes of many, the homeless don't count. Volunteers come in and are taught that the clients are "bad" and they will try to "get over" when in actuality they are hungry and have a myriad of socio-psychological problems that the shelter ignores, Their excuse "we cant solve everyones problems" The reality is they solve very few. Someone has got to take a good look at the sham the Hoboken shelter has become

Subject: misleading or deceptive description of E. Suarez

Dear Al

I was amazed at your characterization of D.A. Suarez as an Hispanic whereas you indicate her immigrant parents came from Spain, a European country.

D.A. Suarez is of Spanish European descent and should be so characterized.

Hispanic refers to Central Americans such as Mexicans, Guatemalans, etc; perhaps Puerto Ricans; perhaps Peruvian South Americans and definitely NOT Spanish-speaking Europeans.

I believe you need to write a correction to your story if your paper subscribes to honest reporting and fact checking before publication.

Were you trying to score some politically correct points with the local Hispanic population or did you make an honest mistake?

Please advise so I can determine the credibility of your future reporting.

I have an issue with our reportage of this false representation from her crew. She knows better, but is trying to popularize herself with Hispanic voters by indentifying herself as someone she is not. She is not a Latina (from Latin American heritage) nor is she a Hispanic. She is of European Spanish background according to her own admission. That makes her parents Spaniards and she European Spanish-American or American-Spanish.

Your job as an accredited reporter is to expose falsehoods and to fact-check your reportage.

I am writing to you out of good-will to alert you to of your responsibility to avoid manipulation from people you report on to the community. I suggest contacting Esther about the inconsistent statement about her European heritage and self-representation as a Latina and an Hispanic woman. She knows better and is deliberately deceiving the public to garner support from the large Hispanic voting constituents.

Guttenberg Housing A

“The lawsuit that the Guttenberg Housing Authority filed against Miss Gonzalez is designed to punish her for speaking out,” Zayas says.

The GHA received federal funds to provide affordable housing for low-income families.

“Instead they’ve used $384,000 that could be used for affordable housing to go after a former secretary who is judgment proof, which means she can’t pay for any judgment against her,” Zayas says.

According to the Housing Authority, Gonzalez e-mailed a waiting list of social security numbers to herself.

“Which she did,” Zayas says. “But she did so in order to preserve that evidence from being destroyed (so she could provide it to the GHA Board of Commissioners and to HUD, office of Inspector General). And there’s nothing illegal about that, because even the executive director used to e-mail confidential information to her own personal e-mails. So this double standard is troubling.”

Gonzalez’s lawyer calls his client a target.

“Because of that letter, where she laid out her allegations of wrongdoing, Ms. (Barbara) Criscione has used her office and government money to go after Ms. Gonzalez,” Zayas says. “We believe that this is wrong on so many different levels and we believe this is an attempt to silence a whistleblower.” Hudson County TV

When the North Bergen Reporter, along with Guttenberg Mayor Gerald Drasheff, received an anonymous complaint two months ago about certain alleged improprieties at the Guttenberg Housing Authority – including the fact that three high-ranking employees purchased a Monmouth County beach home while two were tenants of federally assisted public housing – an investigation was begun by HUD and local entities.

Guttenberg’s public housing is meant for low-income tenants, moderate-income tenants, and senior citizens, and it is federally subsidized.

According a deed on the Monmouth Beach, N.J. house, Guttenberg Housing Authority Executive Director Barbara Criscione, then-Assistant Director Maryann Morro, and Housing Manager Fatima Becerril purchased the $770,000 property at 3 Riverdale Ave. on June 26, 2008.
