I write to express my appreciation to Tom McCann, the man in charge of the county's Division of Parks. Over a period of at least one year, I and other park goers, have observed much neglect in Union City's Washington Park. Giant potholes in the park pathways, shattered or broken lights in the park, gaping holes in the fences, graffiti on the walls, many trees uncared and untended. As a member of the Union City Neighborhood Association, I contacted both Chief McCann, and Mayor Stack. Most of the problems have been resolved but I had to be very persistent. In those sections of the park maintained by the county, Chief McCann, saw to it that part of a pathway was repaved, unhealthy trees were either pruned or removed, and fencing around the children’s playground and swim area is being primed for repainting. I still want him to replace a dumpster with one that has a lid near the picnic area.
All in all, excellent work. As always, I have the highest admiration for our county park workers especially those in the Forestry Division. To those two men priming the fence, you can expect to see a letter of appreciation coming in the future.
