In a recent article "Texas Hold'em helps the hungry" I thought that I was going to read an article about some charity doing work for some third world country. To my surprise this article pointed out that the money raised is for food for the "needy families" in Secaucus. It stated that the Secaucus food pantry helps something on the order of 100 "needy" families per month. My first thought was "Needy families in Secaucus"? I guess that I will have to redefine my understanding of what "needy" really means.
I had to ask myself, how can this be? The average price for a house in Secaucus is over $500,000. Even the old run down fixer upper is now worth $350 to $400,000 in Secaucus. What is referred to as "low income" housing is situated in a market with new, modern and beautiful housing construction in a development which shall command $750,000.00 at this new "riverfront" development. Imagine that, "needy' with a river view! What a country.
This is a town where some units at Harmon Cove are advertised for as much as a million dollars! The old folks who live in the Senior Citizens housing live in beautiful and rent subsidized buildings.
Are there really residents of Secaucus who cannot afford to purchase life's basic necessities? After reading the article on the Poker Charity Night and learning of the claim that there are so many in Secaucus with such extreme financial needs that they need a food pantry to assist them I have to ask a simple question. Is there some secret section of town which I don't know about? I thought that I knew it all so well.
