The fair also provided students about to begin the school year with close to 600 backpacks filled with necessary school supplies. This is the third year that JCMC-Greenville has held the back-to-school event to help local parents with the financial burden of paying for school supplies.
“This event is just another example of how Jersey City Medical Center continues to serve our local community and invest in the future of our community beyond the walls of the hospital,” said Michael Prilutsky, COO of Jersey City Medical Center. “We are happy to be able to help so many students and their families as they prepare to welcome the new school year.”
The event also offered free health screenings, which included blood pressure, blood glucose, weight/BMI, HIV and Hep-C.
Various other JCMC services were present and engaged with the community, including Children’s Specialized Hospital, MASSH, Children with Special Needs, Patient Navigation, and Institute of Prevention and Recovery.
“Jersey City Medical Center is committed to the health care needs of all Greenville and Hudson County,” said Whitney Bracco, director of operations, JCMC-Greenville.
JCMC-Greenville services include Children’s Specialized Hospital – RWJ, Special Child Health Services, Medical and Social Services for the Homeless (MASSH), Center for Comprehensive Care (HIV awareness and testing), the Uncompensated Care Program, and Charity Care Assistance Program.
Rep. Donald Payne, Jr., Assemblywoman Angela McKnight, and Ward F Councilman Jermaine Robinson were among the elected officials who greeted the children, families, and community members in attendance.
The Hudson County Sheriff’s Office, Jersey City Fire Department, and the Jersey City Health Department participated from county and local government. Health-related resources and giveaway items were distributed by community vendors such as AngelaCares, Hudson Pride, PACO, the Urban League of Hudson County. Local double Dutch team Jump4Jerry entertained the crowd with a special jump rope performance. Lunches and refreshments were provided courtesy of ShopRite.
