ALL FOR CHARITY – Tom Pelliccio of Bayonne won a limited edition Monster Energy racing jacket and helmet after bidding $400 ($200 each) at the “Racing with the Pros” charity kart racing event at Pole Position Raceway in Jersey City on Aug. 24. The event was in celebration of the launch of an ongoing partnership between Pole Position Raceway and the Starlight Children’s Foundation of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut as part of its give-back charter named CAReS (Cancer, Alzheimer’s, Recover and thoSe in need). The racing event raised nearly $7,500 to benefit the Starlight Children’s Foundation through the $20 admission fee, raffles, and live and silent memorabilia auctions as well as proceeds from food sold by The Taco Truck during the event.

Council to consider PILOT for wine company expansion

The City Council is expected to introduce at its Sept. 19 meeting an ordinance that would grant a tax break for the redevelopment of the former AGC Chemical site on East 22nd Street. The projected has an estimated cost of $33 million.

During the 30-year term of the tax exemption, at a minimum, the city is expected to receive approximately $15,900,000 as opposed to the $5,789,117 it would receive if the property is not redeveloped. The project is expected to generate as many as 350 construction jobs, and the wine company will retain 140 existing jobs and add about 75 new jobs in its Bayonne-based operations.

Mayor Smith’s evening office hours resume Sept. 18

The Bayonne Office of the Mayor announced that Mayor Mark Smith will resume evening office hours on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, except holidays, beginning on Sept. 18, at 5:30 p.m.

The Recreation Division Office, the Building Division Office, and the Tax Collector’s Office will also maintain evening hours from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on those days.

For the remainder of 2012, office hours will take place on the following Tuesday evenings: Sept. 18, Oct. 2, Oct. 16, Nov. 20, Dec. 4, and Dec. 18. Evening office hours will not take place on Nov. 6, because that is Election Day.

Updates to the schedule will be announced as needed.

GFWC Peninsula Women’s Club to resume meeting The GFWC Peninsula Woman’s Club of Bayonne announced its first meeting of the season will be held on Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Trinity Parish Hall, located at the corner of Fifth Street and Broadway. The guest speaker will be Clara Campbell, NJSFWC representative on the topic of Federation 101. Light refreshments will be served following the meeting.

The meeting agenda includes final plans for the upcoming fall fundraisers and events; including the Scholarship Fund Dine Out at San Vito’s, which will be held on Sept. 27 from 5 to 9 p.m. Proceeds from this event support the club’s new Girl’s Scholarship Program.

The second Read for the Record Story Time will take place on Oct. 4 at the Bayonne Public Library. Preregistration is required for this free event for children ages 3 to 8. Email Read4Record@PeninsulaWC.org to register. Send the child’s name and age, the adult’s name and contact info, and your choice of session 6, 6:30, or 7 p.m.

Dinner at Renato’s to benefit cancer prevention foundation

Renato’s Pizza Master, located at 278 Central Ave. in Jersey City, will be host to the “Take a Bite Out of Cancer” dine around campaign, donating a portion of the proceeds from both lunch and dinner on Sept. 17 to the Madeline Fiadini LoRe Foundation for Cancer Prevention.

Dining with the foundation will support the initiative that provides necessary cancer screenings to an underserved population. The mission of the foundation is to make cancer prevention programs available, and to grant access to the test and/or screening necessary for individuals who may otherwise be denied due to lack of sufficient medial coverage and available funds. The free screenings and tests include mammographies, colonoscopies and PSA.

HCCC to hold jobs fair

The Hudson County Community College (HCCC) Center for Business and Industry (CBI) will host a Job Fair on Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the College’s Culinary Arts Institute/Conference Center at 161 Newkirk Street in Jersey City.

HCCC CBI Executive Director Ana Chapman said the College invites employers from the full

spectrum of industries in Hudson County to participate; she expects to have companies representing the finance, healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, retail, and transportation, logistics and distribution fields on board that day.

The Job Fair is open to Hudson County residents who are 18 years of age or older and possess a high school diploma or GED. Job-seekers are asked to bring copies of their résumés with them and to be certain that they are armed with names and contact information for their references.

In addition to applying for employment with the participating companies and organizations, jobseekers will also have the opportunity to attend information sessions on résumé writing,

interview skills, targeted job searches, and enhancing workplace skills.
