I believe all should know that whenever there are things in Bayonne that need immediate attention all you need to do is call, email or contact someone via Social Media such as Facebook, and the City of Bayonne will do everything to get the situation mediated.
On Friday morning, February 14, I was on Facebook and saw a picture of the 45th Street Light Rail Station that someone posted. The station's steps had not been shoveled and the station not plowed, which left the station in a dangerous state for commuters. The picture had a caption bashing Mayor Mark Smith for the poor condition of the station. I did two things. First, I advised the person that this is private property and owned by NJ Transit and it is their responsibility to get the property cleaned. Then I messaged Bayonne Councilman Ray Greaves. I immediately got a response within a half hour that he and the mayor had already contacted NJ Transit and crews were in transit. Then a half hour later I received a picture from Ray Greaves showing NJ Transit's crews cleaning the snowy mess.
Also, I received a message from the person who posted the picture that she received a personal message from the Mayor's Chief of Staff thanking her for the picture posted and that a team from NJ Transit was dispatched to the scene. See, these are the quick responses we will get if we speak up and notify the proper authorities.
This is the service we get in Bayonne. Even though it was not their property, it is property that Bayonne residents use and they do care about our safety. However, the only way the City can help is if they are notified. If they are not notified, they cannot help.
I just wanted to say thank you to Councilman Ray Greaves and Mayor Mark Smith and his staff for attending to this situation in a quick and timely manner thereby guaranteeing a safe environment for Light Rail commuters.
Mayor Smith, once again, you have my vote.
