A private committal was held for Philip John Dressler of Toms River, formerly of Union City. He passed away on July 8 at 88 at Green Acres Manor, Toms River. He was born in Hoboken and raised in Union City, moving to Holiday City Berkeley in 1982. Phil was very proud of his time serving our country during World War II. He was D + 1 during the Normandy Invasion landing on Utah Beach. Fighting in Germany, France and Belgium. Phil was most proud of his service with the 82nd Airborne Combat Engineers as a sergeant. Phil was a Purple Heart recipient along with other awards. He reenlisted when the war ended and became a paratrooper. Phil was a police officer attaining the rank of detective with the Union City, NJ Police Department for over 30 years. After his retirement, and move to Holiday City, he became a security guard for Holiday City and worked for The Timothy E Ryan Home for Funerals, Toms River for many years. He was an active member of the American Legion. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Patricia (Barton) Dressler in 2011, his father John Dressler and mother Elizabeth (Jensicke) Dressler as well as his sister Evelyn (Dressler) Cicchino. Surviving are his daughter Loreen and husband Ralph Silbernagel of Lakewood; son Steven R and his wife Linda Dressler of Wyckoff; daughter Joanna and her husband Patrick Kloster of Green Bay, WI. He is also survived by five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family wishes to acknowledge the entire staff and administration of Green Acres Manor for their compassion and care given to our father. We will never forget you.
