I am writing about Dan Levin, an upstanding man I have known and worked with for nearly seven years.
I met Dan in 2007 when I was working for Councilman Steven Fulop. At the time, Dan was leading the good government organization Civic JC and collaborating with Councilman Fulop on the Pay-to-Play reform ordinance. Working with a handful of volunteers, we spent over four months collecting signatures to get the Pay-to-Play referendum on the 2008 general election ballot. I’m very proud of the reform we accomplished and the changes we helped instill in Jersey City.
From that point forward I began working closely with Dan. I managed his mayoral campaign in 2009 and supported him again when he ran as an At-Large candidate in 2011. During this time, I have gotten to know Dan and his family very well. He is a man who truly cares for this city and its residents. I am a single parent and it gives me great comfort knowing I can rely on Dan’s guidance as I navigate how to best address my son’s needs. Every decision Dan makes is with his children, my son, and every Jersey City resident’s future in mind. This is why Dan has dedicated the past two decades to redevelopment, the arts, government reform, historic preservation, implementation of bike lanes, and public education. He will continue to support these causes as an elected official.
Dan Levin is truly a great, dedicated public servant who is unafraid to stand his ground and work hard on every cause he is devoted to. Moreover, he does not make any decision haphazardly. Because Dan has often been an outspoken opponent of Mayor Healy, he knew there would be ramifications when he joined the mayor’s ticket last fall. He has experienced countless personal attacks from those who see him as abandoning his position as an independent leader. By running with Dan, Mayor Healy is showing his commitment towards improving downtown Jersey City for everyone. Furthermore, I believe Dan’s insistence that his team not react to the demeaning and libelous attacks hurled at him during this campaign by his opposition speaks to the strength of his character. Dan is not interested in attacking others. He is a man with one clear vision; Dan only cares about ensuring that every Jersey City resident leads the best life they possibly can.
Dan Levin cares about what happens next in Jersey City and he will be a great, dignified voice for Ward E. On May 14, please vote for Dan Levin.
