Dear Editor:

On Friday January 23rd The North Bergen Girls Softball Program held their 1st awards dinner under the new administration in the Nutrition Center on 45th St. It has been quite a few years since the program has seen such success. In 2008 they had record numbers come out to register, and the same showed their support at this year’s awards dinner.

In the past, the program has never seen so many participants with their families at a girl’s softball dinner. One would think that the dinner was somewhat of a debacle but I see it as a huge accomplishment for the program and a little taste of what’s to come, a remarkable 2009 season!

People have been heard saying the dinner was huge disaster because there weren’t enough tables and they ran out of plates (oh my what a disaster), but was it really a disaster? Commissioner Allen Pascual, during his speech, said a real disaster would have been having too many empty tables and not enough plates and/or people. That could have been the disaster but having a standing room only dinner was just the opposite, it was a huge victory for the Girls Softball Program. It also means that the program is headed in the right direction. If the 2008 awards dinner is any indication of what the 2009 season has in store for the girl’s softball program, then all I can say is I am proud to be a part of it!

Special thanks to the Recreation Department, Joanne Sogluizzo and all the coaches who helped out at the dinner. We appreciate all you have done, and it is great to have you on our team.

Pamela Richmond, Michael Bartulovich & Joan Davison
