JERSEY CITY – Is race an issue in the Jersey City mayoral, er, race?

Over the weekend, the Star Ledger ran a story in which Mayor Healy talks about a naked photo of himself taken outside his home years ago, that made the rounds during a previous mayoral election. He said he was inside his house and came outside in a towel after three Latino women were making noise. They he said they made “filthy” overtures.

The campaign of Healy’s opponent, Councilman Steve Fulop, planned to criticize his references to the women in a press conference today. (See our previous breaking news item linked below).

On Monday, Team Healy responded with its own release saying, “Team Healy council candidates Omar Perez (at-Large), Janet Chevres (Ward C) and Rev. Mario Gonzalez (Ward D) released the following statement regarding the Fulop Campaign’s deplorable, race-baiting distraction from both the issues that matter to voters and from the Fulop campaign’s pay-to-play and voter suppression scandals.”

The statement says that the Fulop team has “taken their campaign into the gutter” as an attempt to distract voters from issues like pay to play.

Also, “What matters to both the Latino community and all those who live, work and visit Jersey City is Mayor Healy’s record of getting illegal guns off the street, putting more cops on the beat, and creating parks and safe places for our children to play. That record is why President Barack Obama endorsed Mayor Healy for re-election, and that record is also why we are proud to stand alongside Mayor Healy to keep the progress going in Jersey City.”

Vote for Fulop, Vote for 'Team Fulop'.

Making Jersey City a better place is just making right choice. Cast your vote for Fulop, Nidia R. Lopez . Say no to Healy.

Vote for Fulop? YES! Vote for Nidia Lopez? NEVER! She lied about her residency. Committed voter fraud. Cheated on her taxes. Committed mortgage fraud. Really why should I vote for her? SHE HAS DONE NOTHING!

Here is what the judge had to say when he ruled on her residency in NJ. Read for yourself and see:

"Whether intentionally or otherwise, Lopez did not pay New Jersey taxes, either personal or business, between 2001-2009. She did not reinstate her corporation in New Jersey after her return in 2001. She did not apply for a New Jersey drivers' license. She may or may not have voted by absentee ballot in a Florida election after she moved back to New Jersey in 2001. She represented her Florida house to be her permanent home for the purpose of multiple refinancing and to obtain yearly homestead exemptions. None of these actions, whatever the motivation for them, is excused or condoned by this decision."
