The Hoboken Republicans endorse Nathan Brinkman for Mayor. Brinkman gets it: Hoboken’s competitive advantage to New York and the surrounding municipalities in Hudson County is a better standard of living at a better cost of living (i.e., it should be less expensive to live in Hoboken than nearby and you can actually live in a nice active community). We believe that Brinkman will be guided by his long held fundamental fiscally conservative principles that support cutting spending and, accordingly, cutting taxes: taxpayers expect value for their taxes, never increase taxes when wasteful spending has not been eliminated, do not promise a spending cut as an excuse to raise taxes and transparency stops wasteful spending. While other candidates have paid mere lip service to these ideas (as we have seen from the records of prior alleged reformers), Brinkman distinguishes himself because he is the only candidate that is a genuine fiscal conservative and that is free from local political allegiances and obligations to special interest groups. We believe that his independence is key to reforming Hoboken’s budget crisis and attracting new businesses to Hoboken.
Further, Brinkman’s campaign has been a positive campaign focused on his views to reform Hoboken and the attributes he possesses that will result in the implementation of his ideas. During a time that Hoboken is frustrated and divided, we fear that the personal disdain that has developed among the other candidates will continue the prideful political wrangling that has divided Hoboken. Brinkman, who is bright, creative and a genuinely nice guy that is generally liked, represents a refreshing start to a government that can unite Hoboken and ensure that Hoboken remains uncontrolled from the poisonous local political interests and special interest groups that have used Hoboken’s wealth for their advantage.
We also believe that Brinkman will continue to be an active community participant as Mayor. Instead of attending political fundraisers and events, Brinkman, recently married and now a father, will be in touch with the trials and joys of other Hoboken families, which will permit him to make decisions that address their needs.
Separately, The Hoboken Republicans endorse Chris Christie for Governor. The State requires fresh leadership as it was unable during a financial boom to lower its “worst in the nation” tax burden and to stem the tide of businesses and residents leaving the State each year. Beyond his stellar record as a US Attorney (including the work he did that resulted in the arrest of 44 people in a bribery sting that netted Hoboken’s mayor), Christie is the only candidate that understands that, while the State is suffering from its worst unemployment in 33 years, coupled with its already outrageous tax burden, increasing taxes and spending is wrong. Christie’s understanding of the pain felt by New Jerseyans has resulted in the formulation of a vision and plan to move New Jersey forward, making him the clear choice for Governor.
