Dear Editor:

I am appalled that someone would write such a disheartening letter. I was at the funeral in question, and let me tell you that the person in question was in no way friendless. That said person had a line of family and friends that was 3 hours long in waiting to pay their respects. If Anonymous knew anything about funeral's, when a person is to be cremated they are brought to the crematory alone. That is the protocol. For you to take the time to write such a letter shows your character. The deceased was a leader to all who knew him. He was a well respected human being. He was loved by all. Obviously in reading your letter, you must have known who was in the coffin. Why would someone go out of their way to constantly have something posted, that would only bring hurt to the family and friends of the deceased. It wasn't politic's that gave him such a motorcade escort. It was his character, and what he and his family meant to everyone. For that reason, and only that reason was why he was showered with such respect. If you have the guts to write such a letter then you should have the guts to attach your name to it.

The question was “Who was this poor soul who went to the graveyard [seemingly] friendless?” The key word here is "seemingly." You really read a lot into a letter. Why not just say who this person was and answer a simple question?

Another question was “How is it that a single hearse with no motorcade of the bereaved requires that the taxpayers of Hudson County pay four deputies to escort a lone hearse to the bone yard?” O.K. the person went to the creamatory so no FRIENDS escorted the hearse.

So why was the Sherriff’s deputy escort involved? It was a lone hearse. Was the person associated with the sheriff’s department? Questions asked, answers few.

The taxpayers would like to know! The letter could have been written to read something like “Hey, who died?” But that would not have made for good reading. R.I.P. well loved Mystery person.
