A funeral service was held Dec. 21 for Joseph P. Liberton. He passed away Dec. 18 at Care One in Teaneck. He was a retired firefighter captain for the West New York Fire Department for 36 years. He served as the Hudson County Executive Committeeman for the State Fireman’s Association for 17 years. Joseph was past president of the West New York Exempt Fireman, vice president of the West New York Firefighters Relief Association and a member of the State Firefighters Association. He was a Navy veteran serving during World War II, a member of the Tin Can Sailors, and a member of the Moose Lodge in North Bergen.

Joe was known for his good nature and quick wit, bringing smiles to many faces. Surviving is his wife Elizabeth “Tuttie” Liberton. He was the father of Cheryl Ungaro and her husband John, Laura Chipouras and her husband Jay, and the late Lois Liberton; brother of Frank Liberton; grandfather of Matthew, Krystan, Elizabeth, Brandon, Alexandra and Maxwell; great-grandfather of Amaya, Willow Violet and Nathan. The family would like to thank the 4th floor nursing staff at Holy Name Hospital and the 2nd floor nursing staff at Care One, Teaneck. Services arranged by the Vainieri Funeral Home, North Bergen.
