HUDSON COUNTY -- Most schools in the area announced Wednesday evening that they'd be closed Thursday.

Jersey City, Hoboken, Weehawken, Bayonne, Union City, West New York, and North Bergen all made the announcement.

Hoboken later followed up its announcement with a Tweet saying, "We fully understand this may be an inconvenience for our families. Due to the weight of the snow on trees and electrical lines both in Hoboken & surrounding areas, safety had to take precedence."

The announcement came after a Wednesday in which forecasters predicted it would snow most of the day, but the white stuff held off until about 12:30 p.m. However, conditions were hazardous after that.

Forecasters did say they believed the precipitation would end by late Wednesday night. They also predict a bit of light snow for Friday as well, but no significant accumulation.
