Palisades Medical Center recognizes local residents for volunteer service

Palisades Medical Center celebrated National Volunteer Week recently by holding a special luncheon at yhe Waterside in North Bergen to recognize its dedicated volunteers for their tireless efforts. During the Volunteer Recognition Luncheon, Palisades Medical Center staff presented commemorative pins to volunteers to recognize their cumulative hours of service to the Medical Center.

Recognized for the greatest number of hours, 16,000, was Beatriz Garcia of Edgewater.

From North Bergen, honored for their service were Katherine Lockwood , 7,000 hours; Caroline Imperato , 1,500 hours; Gita Patel, 1,00 hours; Winnie Siegel-Bamert, 750 hours; and Alexander Gonzalez and Irmgard Weiss, 100 hours.

Les Scharin of Guttenberg served 250 hours.

Residents of West New York receiving honors included Eronidez Cristofol, 6,000 hours; Karen Eckerson, 500 hours; Rolande Flynn, and 250 hours.

Union City honorees included Alanna Gonzalez, Maryann Perez, and Gleisys Rodriguez, all100 hours.

Dorothy Riley and Sara Zapata of Weehawken were recognized for serving 3,000 and 250 hours, respectively.

Other honorees included Paul DeSavino of New Milford, 6,000 hours; Joan Bacon of Jersey City, 1,500 hours; and Jheyson Danlasky of Fort Lee, Lucia MacKenzie of Demarest, Julee Song of Ridgewood, and Balzhan Tobayakhova of Edgewater, with 100 hours each.

A ‘vital role’

“Our volunteers play a vital role in helping Palisades Medical Center provide high quality care for our community,” said Bruce J. Markowitz, president and CEO of Palisades Medical Center. “They truly exemplify what it means to make a strong commitment to caring for our neighbors each and every day.”

More than 100 volunteers offer their time and energy in almost every department of the Medical Center. Volunteer activities at Palisades Medical Center include assisting the nursing staff and patients, working in the gift shop, performing clerical duties, and organizing special fundraising events. Volunteer positions offer flexible hours including nights and weekends.
