Coming into week two of the Jewish Community Center of Bayonne’s Floor Hockey Sr. Division season, the (1-1) Devils and the (0-2) Islanders are both still tweaking their lineup in hopes of finding a winning formula. After an impressive week-one victory, the Devils suffered a stunning 7-1 defeat earlier in the week while the Islanders need to kick-start its lethargic offense. The Devils got the action rolling when Hugh Kiniery slipped a pass to Jared Radil who drilled the game’s first goal. Down1-0, the Islanders took advantage of a power play as Natallyah Teixeira blasted in the game-tying goal off an assist from James Bajor. The one-all tie held up for more than ten minutes until the Devils’ Jared Radil notched his second goal of the bout with Melanie Bonilla picking up the assist. Two minutes after falling behind 2-1, the Islanders stormed back as Meghann Mock centered a pass to Gabriella Bonilla who flipped in the game-knotting shot. With the game deadlocked at 2-2, the goalies settled in with the Devils’ Josh Greenbaum and the Islanders’ Sofia Fragiacomo bringing the crowd to cheer with one amazing save after another. While the goalies put on a clinic, the Devils and Islanders played hard and smart as Madison Neal Markowski (Islanders) and the Devils’ Hugh Kiniery dueled for open shots. The scoring drought finally ended when the Devils’ Drew Radil cashed in off a pass from Hugh Kiniery making it 3-2, Devils. Before the Devils had time to celebrate, the Islanders surged back with Meghann Mock assisting Elliott Santana on a goal- scoring masterpiece to once again tie the tussle at 3-3. Entering the final five minutes, the Devils’ Drew Radil turned a pinpoint pass from Melanie Bonilla into a scoring rocket from the right point and after some dogged defense the Devils held on with a 4-3 victory.
