The first time I saw Rebecca Symes conduct a Harsimus Cove Association meeting as president, I knew I was seeing someone with extraordinary leadership capabilities. This meant a lot to me personally because I founded the organization and have worked hard as a neighborhood activist for many years. With time, my respect and admiration for her has deepened.
Before deciding to endorse Rebecca, and in fact to volunteer on her campaign, I questioned her at length about her background, her knowledge, her reasons for seeking office, and, most important to me, her values. She came up aces on all counts.
Walking the area with her as we knock on doors and meet voters, I’ve also developed a warm regard for her as a person. And I continue to learn about her grasp of the issues we face downtown, her ideas about how to deal with them, and her ability to listen to, relate to, and learn from others. I trust Rebecca, and I’m convinced that she’s not only hard-working but also highly capable and ethical. For these reasons, I’m happy to enthusiastically support Rebecca for City Council.
