Dear Editor:

The following is an open letter to the citizens of Weehawken:

To the citizens of Weehawken Township, as I reflect in the shadow of the horrific massacre in Newtown, CT., there is no doubt in my mind, that the teachers and educational support staff in the Weehawken Public Schools District would have reacted exactly in the same manner as the staff at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Be confident and assured in knowing, that the Weehawken Education Association members' professionalism, expertise, courage, and utmost consideration for the protection of our students, continue to be their priority.

I am so proud to be their colleague, but prouder to be their President. It is the most appropriate time to say thank “you” for their dedication and commitment to our district.

With respect,
Jill M. Barbarise President of the WEA
