WEST NEW YORK -- Even though West New York Mayor Felix Roque was able to beat federal hacking charges earlier this year, that doesn't mean his administration is off the hook. Earlier this year, the state released a report criticizing his alleged meddling in Board of Education personnel decisions. In a possibly unrelated incident, a town commissioner confirmed last week that the FBI was "conducting an investigation" in Town Hall, without knowing whether it was related to Roque.

According to NJ.com, Commissioner FiorD'Aliza Frias said, “All I know is they were conducting an investigation" and that it appeared to be in the preliminary stage.

However, Roque's spokesman, Pablo Fonseca, told NJ.com, “We have no knowledge of an FBI visit, but the city is open to any requests. Mayor Roque runs a transparent government.”

In the story, Roque said, “They are always welcome to come in and stop by, and I’ll even give them a cup of coffee."

Roque's son will be sentenced next month related to the hacking charges.

The FBI declined to comment on the status or existence of the investigation, as is their usual policy.
