HOBOKEN -- The Hoboken-North Hudson YMCA announced Wednesday morning that the renovations to the residential units are completed and ready for occupancy. The 96 newly renovated Single Room Occupancy units, including a new fifth floor, complete the first phase of the redevelopment of the facility.
The facility will host a ribbon cutting Friday morning at 9:30 a.m.
“The preservation of this historic building, renovation of residential units, and expansion of affordable housing options in Hoboken will benefit our entire community,” said Mayor Dawn Zimmer.
“Many years in the planning, the residential component of the Hoboken-North Hudson YMCA, now known as MBS Housing, has finally come to fruition. In fulfillment of its mission, the Board of Directors is proud to enable this valuable asset to continue its service to our community,” said Paul Somerville, president, Board of Directors.
The units are owned by MBS Housing and will be managed by the YMCA. Rents for the SRO units will be between $365 and $578 per month and will be determined by income. In order to be eligible for an affordable housing unit, the men must meet certain income limits as determined by the New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency and the New Jersey Council on Affordable Housing.
Applications are still being accepted as not all units have been rented. The maximum eligible income limits for the units are $16,200 for a low income unit and $27,000 for a moderate income unit.
If you are interested in applying to rent one of the affordable units, you must complete a Preliminary Application and return the application to the Hoboken YMCA at 1301 Washington Street, Hoboken, NJ 07030. Preliminary applications are available at the Hoboken YMCA, and at www.HobokenYMCA.org. Applications can also be requested via mail by calling the YMCA at (201) 963-4100.
