Roger Muller, proprietor of nearly 100-year-old Hoboken business, passes away

HOBOKEN -- Longtime Hoboken insurance agent Roger Muller of Muller Insurance passed away on Saturday. Also known as R. John, he was the owner-operator of R. John Muller Insurance and Real Estate Agency on Washington Street, which was established in 1906 by his father, John Muller.

Muller, 85, passed away at Hackensack University Medical Center. Roger graduated from Upsala College in East Orange and attended St. John’s Law School in the Bronx.

He served in the NJ State Detective Association for 46 years, 21 years of which he was the president. He was a past Master (1960) of The Masonic Euclid Lodge, #136 F. & A.M. in Hoboken, NJ; a member of the Royal Arch Masons Ark of the Covenant in Ridgefield Park; a member of the Hugh de Payens Commandery No. 1 K.T.; a Shriner of the Salaam Temple; a member of PBA Local 3 in Newark; a member of FOP Local #46; a member of the Elks Lodge #74 in Hoboken; and a member of the Hoboken Lions Club. He also served as the president of the Hoboken Board of Realtors in 1960. He was a passionate fisherman and hunter.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hetty (née Harris) Muller, and was the father of Leonore Muller, Laura Romm-Cohen, Roger J. Muller Jr., and Erika S. Muller. He was the grandfather of three and the very special grandfather of Kelsey and Taylor Muller. He is also survived by one great-grandchild.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Thursday, May 30, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Lawton-Turso Funeral Home, 633 Washington St. A service will be held on Friday, May 31 , 2013 at 10:30 a.m., by Pastor Mary Forell of St. Matthews Trinity Lutheran Church, Hoboken, at the funeral home. Interment will take place at the Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, NJ. In lieu, please make donations to Hoboken Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
