My name is Phil Campbell, and Hoboken is in my blood. It's the place where I have been raised. It's the place where I started my education, formal and informal. It is the place that has shaped my character... and tested it as well. It is the place my family and I have called home for so long.
For those reasons I am pleased to announce my candidacy for election to the Hoboken Board of Education with the Kids First 2008 ticket. I am truly honored to be running with Brian Assadourian and Tricia Snyder who is up for re-election. It is not every day that you find intelligent, hardworking, scrupulous individuals whose sole purpose is to address the needs of Hoboken's future, our children.
It feels good to work with a group of people who are committed to excellence, have an deep sense of responsibility and who are dedicated to serving the needs of our students. As an economist, educator and mom Tricia brings the knowledge and life experience needed to help keep the school board moving in the right direction. From outstanding scholar, athlete and musician to successful entrepreneur and husband to an educator, Brian brings a unique perspective and skill-set that the school board can benefit from immensely. Both entrust their children to our care, and both won't settle for second best.
I have seen the landscape of our city change, and it brings me joy to see how far we have come but we have so much more to do. I have worked in many facets of the community and built valuable relationships with a diverse mix of people. Armed with a strong understanding of the youth and the culture of Hoboken, I am eager to bridge the many groups and act as a catalyst for positive change.
Issues like the need for a solid district wide curriculum, addressing our declining enrollment and the likelihood of budgetary stress demand that we exercise fiscal responsibility and allocate our resources wisely. This will require the commitment to always do what is right and the courage to make hard decisions in the best interest of our students. I strongly believe that we have great teachers, students, faculty and staff and that we can all work together to accomplish any goal, overcome any obstacle and achieve more than we ever have, if we openly seek the truth, accountability and accept only the best results.
