Benefit for victims of two fires being held Oct. 13
Mayor Michael Gonnelli is encouraging residents to attend “After the Blaze,” a benefit for displaced families from two recent town fires, on Sunday, Oct. 13, from 3 to 7 p.m., at the Arthur F. Couch Performing Arts Center, 11 Millridge Rd.
“Several families from Harmon Cove and Fourth Street have suffered the loss of their homes to tragic fires recently,” said Mayor Gonnelli. “We need to all come together to help these families, who are our friends and neighbors, recover from this devastation. It is a chance for each of us to make a difference while enjoying an afternoon of food, fun and entertainment.”
Darius Kaleb, a star of the hit Broadway show, “Motown, the Musical,” will headline the fundraiser. Other entertainment will include Lyle Leeson, Lisa Howard of “Twilight,” and The Lifters.
There will be a silent auction offering a helicopter ride, Gucci bag, Giants vs. Viking tickets, Spirit cruise, Seton Hall Basketball courtside tickets and VIP club entry, and hotel stays. A 50/50 will also be held. The affair will be hosted by Brian Thompson of WNBC News.
Food will be available for purchase from several local establishments and groups, including Carrabba’s, Mamajuana Café, Mausam, Maschio’s Food Service, the Filipino Society, and Civic Duty Partners.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. They can be bought at the Senior and Recreation centers or at the door. The event is sponsored by the Town of Secaucus, Hartz Mountain, the Secaucus Board of Education, the Secaucus Emergency Fund, and the Secaucus Fire Department.

Tickets on sale for ‘Great American Songbook,’ CAST’s fall production
Tickets are now on sale for the “Great American Songbook,” the Community Arts Scholarship Theater’s production on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8 and 9, at the Arthur F. Couch Performing Arts Center.
The performance will feature classics made famous by Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Judy Garland, Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald, Tony Bennett, and others.
Performances will take place on Nov. 8 at 8 p.m., and Nov. 9 at 2 and 8 p.m.
Tickets are $15; $10 for seniors. They can be purchased at the door at 101 Centre Ave. on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Jazz program for kids on Thursday
Secaucus residents ages 5 to 12 are invited to attend an interactive jazz program at the Secaucus Public Library and Business Resource Center on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 3:30 p.m.
The program is geared toward children from grades kindergarten through 4, however is open to children of all ages. The jazz workshop will focus on listening games, dynamic storytelling, group participation, and an introduction to the musical genre.

A Conference, the kick-off event of “The Conference/The Party,” will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 22, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Maritime Parc, 84 Audrey Zapp Dr., Liberty State Park, Jersey City.

County Animal League holds wine tasting fundraiser
The Hudson County Animal League is inviting everyone to help them celebrate their 20th Anniversary of saving the lives of homeless and abused animals through a wine tasting event sponsored by Bridgeview Liquors of Bayonne.
The wine tasting will be held on Nov. 9, from 4 to 6 p.m., at the Bayonne Museum, 8th Street and Broadway in Bayonne.

Environmental Center hosting program on bats, spiders, and snakes
Get ready for Halloween with the Meadowlands Environment Center’s “Bats, Spiders and Snakes – Oh My!” program on Sunday, Oct. 20, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., at the center, 2 DeKorte Park Plaza, Lyndhurst.
New Jersey’s “Batman,” Joe D’Angeli, will be the presenter.
“Meet these not-so-scary creatures up-close and learn about local bat species, the environmental benefits of bats and recent threats to their survival,” said spokesman Brian Aberback. “D’Angeli will also bring along some other creatures that might be out and about on Oct. 31!”
People of all ages are welcome to attend.
The program is $5 per person for the public, and $4 for MEC members.
