-- 78, of Bayonne, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Bayonne Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong Bayonne resident, he was born on February 16, 1935, to the late Owen J. and Anne (O'Brien) Smyth. He proudly served his country in the Navy for four years aboard the U.S.S. McGowan DD678 and is a Korean War Veteran. He was a loyal member of the Catholic War Veterans. He was employed for 13 years at the Bendix Corporation in Teterboro. He then worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk until his retirement in 1993. After his retirement, he was the proprietor of Pete's Service Plus, maintaining facilities throughout the community. Pete is greatly remembered for his countless hours and dedication to the Bayonne Little League. Pete will be sadly missed by his devoted wife Joyce (Willis) and beloved children, son, Todd Willis and his wife Tamara, daughter, Jennifer Smyth, and daughter, Lisa Mulcahy and her husband Paul; and mother-in-law Betty Jensen. A great joy in Pete’s life were his grandchildren, Sarah, Nyla, Paul, Teague, Cadence, Dorsett, and Braxton. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Robert Sexton, many cherished nephews and nieces, and good friends Jack and Mary Shaw. He was predeceased by his two sisters Marie Wyer and Kathleen Sexton. Visitation will be Friday, May 24 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at G. KEENAN O’BRIEN Funeral Home, 984 Ave. C. A mass will be offered on Saturday, May 25, at 9:45 a.m., at St. Andrew's Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association (Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.)
