With yet another successful fundraiser to its credit, the Jersey City Free Public Library Foundation, Inc. held its 5th Annual major fundraiser at the Casino-In-The-Park on Thursday evening, May 8. The restaurant staff is to be commended for their smooth and efficient operation that made our Casino Night & Silent Auction go off without a hitch.
The Library Foundation finally met its goal for funding the purchase of the new Bookmobile, which was unveiled before the Casino Night fundraiser. The walls are lined with bookshelves that hold 2,000 books, with two small Public Access computers available for patrons to check e-mails. There's a DVD player in the back of the bus, along with rest facilities. For library staff members, there is a dedicated computer to help facilitate both new and old patrons with their library card accounts and a microwave near the front. The new Bookmobile now can accommodate disabled patrons easily.
It is with highest regard and gratitude, that, on behalf of the Jersey City Free Public Library Board of Trustees, we commend the fine efforts of the Board of Trustees of the Jersey City Free Public Library Foundation, Inc., both in three years-long fundraising and in procuring this custom-designed and custom-built Bookmobile.
We thank Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy, Councilwoman Viola Richardson and Councilmen William Gaughan and Peter Brennan for their attendance and continuing support. And we have nothing but many thanks for our major corporate and non-profit sponsors: Comcast, Goldman, Sachs & Co., PSE&G, The Jerramiah T. Healy Charitable Foundation, The Provident Bank Foundation and the Estate of Raymond Landis.
Kudos go to the library staff members that participated in the fundraiser, and the individuals and businesses that contributed donations toward the numerous gifts on display for chance and Silent Auction.
Special thanks must go to Treasurer Michael Ryan and Executive Director Priscilla Gardner, whose joint efforts in the custom designing certainly have paid off, and for both their dedication in making sure the fundraising goals were met. The Bookmobile cost over $222,000, and was paid in full, without any taxpayer expense. Congratulations, Library Foundation!!!
Sincerely,
James K. Morley

P.S. We look forward to seeing everyone again in September at our next fundraiser at P.J. Ryan's!
