On June 1, Det. Hilenne Chemas and members of the West New York Police Department took 300 middle school students on a field trip to Yankee Stadium.

All students attending received an official Yankee baseball bat. The Yankees lost, but the highlight of the trip was the generosity demonstrated by one of the students, Kiara Rodriguez.

Upon leaving the stadium, two New York Police Department officers approached the group as they were boarding the bus. The officers asked if the group had an extra bat for a local disabled man who frequents Yankee stadium. Rodriguez, out of the generosity of her heart, voluntarily gave her bat to the man.

The West New York Board of Education commended Rodriguez at their meeting on June 11.
