To the Editor:

Access to the Hudson Bergen Light Rail in four strategic locations in Bayonne has made Bayonne one of the most transit-enabled places to reside or locate a business in the New York area. Recognizing that security on the Hudson Bergen Light Rail can be an issue on rare occasions, I discussed the need for increased Hudson Bergen Light Rail security with my Third Ward Councilman, Ray Greaves. I have seen an increased presence from both our Bayonne Police and New Jersey Transit Police riding the light rail through our city and at the Hudson Bergen Light Rail stations thanks to the concerted efforts of Councilman Greaves working closely with Bayonne Police Chief Ralph Scianni, Mayor Mark Smith, and the leadership of New Jersey Transit. Further, Councilman Greaves and Chief Scianni have assured me they will remain vigilant when it comes to the safety and security of Bayonne residents who rely on the Hudson Bergen Light Rail to travel throughout Bayonne to other Hudson County "Gold Coast" communities. Thank you Councilman Greaves, Chief Scianni, and Mayor Smith. We appreciate your advocacy for the safety and wellbeing of Bayonne citizens, visitors, and business owners.

We did have a ferry service out of Bayonne but though we had some ridership, unfortunately not enough to keep the ferry service going.

I never post comments on these things but I do need to on this one. My husband is a bayonne police officer and he rides the light rail ever shift. There is two bayonne police officers riding it.. every single afternoon.. The city of bayonne does NOT have to do this but they want to insure the safety of their citizens so they make them ride it even though transit police do as well. .. Not trying to argue.. Just stating facts..

As the mom of a daughter and son who regularly ride the light rail, I truly appreciate the security that the Bayonne PD provides.

Yes this administration has made a big change in keeping Bayonne safe in all aspects. There's Bayonne police cars stopping & patrolling the area at our LR stations all the time. That is what makes criminals think twice. It's hard to believe we are right next to JC with one of the highest crimes rates around. I hear people saying all the time "I hate going to Bayonne because their police suck". I don't say a word I just smile & think "thank you"!! Bayonne & JC are night & day. It's because of the Smith administration's no nonsense to crime attitude. Let's hope it stays that way. Hope people make the right choice & reelect them.

I have been taking the light rail for over 10 years now and I have NEVER seen a Bayonne policeman on it or near it.

It is patrolled by the Hudson Bergen Light Rail police, not the Bayonne Police. If you don't believe it call the Hudson Bergen Light Rail phone numbers.

Yes, I agree this is Smith propaganda again.

BTW, why don't we have a ferry here? We are surrounded by water on 3 sides. Every other town has a ferry along the Hudson..... Jc has a few,Hoboken a few and Bayonne....none. So much for redevelopment.....

Just so you are aware, the Light Rail has its own police.....it is not the city of Bayonne who polices the light rail.

If you have been misinformed by someone, that is unfortunate. it is NJ Transit.

Another Smith propaganda message Smith couldn't find a crime with a map and most recently didn't realize there are gangs in Bayonne, enough said
