Weehawken to hold neighborhood meetings

The Weehawken administration of Mayor Richard Turner will hold neighborhood meetings in each of the township’s three wards prior to the May municipal election day to discuss issues on the minds of residents.

According to Turner, he and the members of the Town Council – Councilman-at-Large Robert E. Zucconi, 1st Ward Councilwoman Carmela Silvestri-Ehret, 2nd Ward Councilwoman Rosemary J. Lavagnino, and 3rd Ward Councilman Robert J. Sosa – do not want to the residents to feel taken for granted even though the officials are running unopposed in the May 11 election.

All three meetings will begin at 7 p.m. and will be attended by all of the town’s department directors as well as the public elected officials. Coffee, tea and cookies will be served.

The schedule of the meetings is as follows: 3rd Ward, April 13, 2010 at the Roosevelt School, 2 Louisa Place; 1st Ward, April 22, 2010, Senior Building at 525 Gregory Ave.; 2nd Ward, May 6, 2010, Senior Citizen Center, 201 Highwood Ave.

Weehawken Seniors headed to Atlantic City

Mayor Richard Turner and the Township Council announced the schedule for Atlantic City bus trips last week. Trips will be held on the last Wednesday of the month on the following dates: April 28, May 26, June 30, July 28 and Aug. 24. The ticket price is $30 per person. Invitation extended for Lincoln Tunnel Challenge

Weehawken Recreation in sponsoring a team in this year's Lincoln Tunnel Challenge on April 25. The event is a fund-raiser for the Special Olympics. Anyone interested in joining the team and walking/running through the Lincoln Tunnel should go to: http://lincolntunnelchallenge.sonj.org to register under the name of “Township of Weehawken Home Team 2010”.

Free artist exhibition to be held

On April 18, the Hispanic Mercantile Federation will hold their eighth annual Hispanic-American Artists Exhibition with over 40 artists from over 15 countries. Spring semester begins at Park PAC

Students ranging in age from 5 to 75 years old can sharpen their art skills and self-expression with classes in art, singing, theater, music theory, and various dance forms on Saturdays at the Park Performing Arts Center, based in Union City.

Spring classes will run from April 24 to June 19. At the end of the spring semester the students will put on a final performance in the theater for family and friends. Students can register for the spring semester April 12 until April 23 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the theater.

Italian descendants sought for exchange program

The Federazione Molfettesi D’America seeks descendants of Molfetta, Italy in order to participate in an exchange program with the City of Molfetta, Italy. Twelve people between the age of 18 and 40 will be selected to travel overseas during the first week in September, 2010. All interested should send a letter of interest no later than April 15 to Federazione Molfettesi D’America 112 Willow Ave., Hoboken, NJ 07030. Expenses will be paid by the sponsors.
