Who hired the 'Building America Committee' to release attack ads?

During the last round of Hoboken mayoral elections, an anonymous group called "Citizens for the Future" sent out attack ads and made disturbing phone calls against candidate Dawn Zimmer. The group did not disclose who paid for the ads. This was a way for the candidate behind them to avoid having his or her name attached to such negative campaigning. One phone message in particular started with a sound effect of a car crashing.

After the election in May, all three frontrunners -- Peter Cammarano, Beth Mason, and Dawn Zimmer -- denied responsibility for the ads that came from this mysterious, Washington D.C.-based group. Someone speculated that the person behind them would have to have a lot of money, but that's as far as it went.

No new attacks from the group have appeared since then, but recently, a new nebulous group had its name on flyers -- the "Building America Committee."

Their name was on a flyer mailed to residents' mailboxes linking Zimmer to the tax increases of Mayor David Roberts.

Who is behind this group, and why isn't the candidate who hired them taking responsibility?

Resident Eric K. posted on another website that he did some research and found that this group was started recently, and links to a major politician. Maybe he can explain further for us below?

Citizens for the Future & Building America Committee, PACs that littered Hoboken doorsteps with anti-Zimmer mailings, are fronts for URSA-Settembre-Sciarra and two NJ builders unions.

Building America Committee is described on its IRS filing as being “committed to building progressive infrastructure at federal, state, and local levels through issue advocacy and citizen outreach.” The committee was apparently created just two weeks ago (May 19) by Keith Carbone, a political worker/strategist from New Milford currently residing in Florida. He’s worked on the Obama campaign in Iowa and a council campaign in Washington, DC. He’s also worked for the BCDO – Bergen County’s version of the Hudson County Democratic Organization – and as a Bergen county canvass director for Robert Menendez for US Senate. Among his friends on Facebook is Scott Shields of White Horse Strategies, the political strategy/communications group used by Cammarano’s campaign.
