Dear Editor:

Well, it's finally in the works to happen. A Memorial for the nine Hoboken Viet Nam Veterans that gave the ultimate sacrifice so that others would have a chance to enjoy the freedom we all took for granted until the recent attack on our great country.

It's been a long road to get to this stage, but with the dedication of family and close friends, along with the much needed help of the men and women of Hoboken American Legion Post 107, I'm pretty sure that this project will finally see the light of day.

I've been writing about this project in this paper for many years, and I can't tell you enough how much it means to me and all veterans to express the gratitude of what these Americans did for their country.

The City of Hoboken should be proud in its endeavor to honor these brave souls. On behalf of the family and friends of these great American heroes, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank my fellow American Veterans at Post 107 for all their help, and I'm looking forward to working with them all over the next few months to complete this very honorable undertaking.

They truly are the greatest generation. The American Legion will be asking but I feel that is worth mentioning here also, that we will need to somehow be in touch with relatives of these nine heroes, so that the inscriptions and any other pertinent information on this Memorial will be correct. The information should be sent in care of The American Legion, Post 107, 308 2nd Street, Hoboken, NJ 07030-3655.

Bobby Hancox
