Dear Editor:

I would like to express my thanks and praise for the support that Mayor David Roberts and the City of Hoboken has given to bringing a unique martial art program, Aikido, to Hoboken residents. Aikido is very innovative in that, during the process of learning self-defense, students actually learn how to resolve conflict as well promote peace. Rather than teaching students to fight back, Aikido teaches self-protection and empathy for others - even "the enemy."

Over the past six months, Hoboken residents have participated in the program every Monday and Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Hoboken Multi Service Community Center, 124 Grand St.

On behalf of all the participants, I would also like to thank and commend Human Services Director Carmelo Garcia and his staff at the Center for their hard work and support in making this program an excellent, affordable resource for the community.

Donald Fann
