Congratulations and a big thank you to Joseph Napolitano, Sr. and Joseph Napolitano, Jr. - more endearingly called 'Smokin Joe' - for the spectacular holiday party they hosted for Jersey City children on Saturday, Dec. 16th at Public School #6 in the Heights Section of our great city. With dedicated volunteer assistance from family members, friends and coaches of the Pershing Field Babe Ruth League, the dynamic Napolitano Father/Son team distributed over 3,000 toys, other gifts and wearing apparel to more than 1,500 kids from infants to 16 year olds, along with snacks and fruit juice. With Santa Claus singing and dancing on the stage, Jersey City Mayor Jerrimiah Healy, Journal Square Councilman Steve Lipski and Ward D Councilman William Gaughan were all smiles as excited kids eagerly awaited the raffling of 160 bicycles, which were donated by local corporations, businesses and foundations.
The holiday extravaganza started at 2 p.m. and lasted till 6:30 p.m. Shouts of joy echoed throughout School #6 auditorium as Smokin Joe Napolitano read the names of the winners of the red, blue, black, green, gold and white colored two wheelers. Random picking of tickets from a large bucket caused excitement and shouts from the youngsters. "Pick mine. Pick my ticket!"
While 160 boys and girls were lucky winners of bikes, all the kids left happily with two and three games, toys, watches and wearing apparel. It was a day of giving. Everybody at this party was pleased with the joy, happiness and warmth that was shared by one and all.
Hats off to the Napolitano's and all their friends and associates from the Pershing Field Baby Ruth League (Elves for this day) for putting together such a spectacular party. Much thanks to the many people, businesses and local companies that helped make this wonderful day happen. They made it possible for all of us, once again, to believe in the message of giving and sharing at this time of the year.
Sincerely,
Anthony L. Grazioso
