A Port Authority official said a man died Monday morning after allegedly jumping from the Summit Avenue Bridge onto train tracks near the Journal Square PATH station.
Port Authority spokesperson Ron Marsico said at around 11:45 a..m., a man allegedly jumped from the bridge located above the tracks and onto the path of an incoming train. Marsico said the man was pinned under the train. No identification has been given for the man.
Marsico said because of police activity at Journal Square, train service between 33rd Street in Manhattan and Journal Square, and World Trade Center and Newark was temporarily terminating at Grove Street. Passengers traveling to Journal Square were advised to use local buses at Grove Street. Passengers traveling to Newark are advised to use New Jersey Transit at Penn Station New York.
Marsico said of 1:30 p.m. Monday afternoon, there was no indication as to when trains would resume normal service. Passengers with computer access are advised to check for updates at http://www.paalerts.com/recentalerts.aspx or listen to local news stations for more information.
