Dear Editor: I read with pleasure your February 13, 200 brief praising the joint Union City/North Hudson Community Action Corp. Health Care Center service provision but was puzzled by the inadvertent omission of the man who conceived of it, planned it, implemented it and daily, with his dedicated and compassionate staff of hardworking professionals, makes it a reality: Union City Commissioner and NHCAC President and CEO Michael Leggiero. As one recently affected by the Thanksgiving season Union City daycare meningitis scare, I can attest to the devotion and care evidenced by the NHCAC Union City Health Center's staff and president. Commissioner Leggiero was there from start to finish, even sacrificing his own holiday plans to coordinate care at the health center and to attend the funeral of the daycare aide stricken with meningitis so that he could offer the family his condolences and his support while offering his services to assist the grieving family in the necessary steps they must undertake to safeguard their own health. Having followed his dream five years ago to create a health care system beginning with the West New York facility on 53rd Street and soon expanding to North Bergen and other environs, Mr. Leggiero longed for the day when the town in which he was raised would have as ready an access to quality and compassionate health care as its northern neighbors did. Soon, Union City, seeing the success of NHCAC in West New York, Weehawken, Guttenberg, and North Bergen, approached Michael to share his success at patient access and satisfaction in their town. Michael Leggiero who had frequently dreamed of a Union City Health Care Center, labored to make his dream our reality and daily he strives to serve better his hometown for his friends and neighbors. As it was not said in the brief, permit me to say it now, "thank you, Commissioner, you truly are Union City's hidden treasure." Maritza Perez
