Dear Editor: This is the big one! With the beautiful renovation of this special historic Park done, the community is poised to complete the old expanded Park gardens and to place major planting in the new garden areas. This past December, about 80 residents planted 15,025 bulbs which are beginning to bloom. Now, the Friends of Van Vorst Park who've led over 500 residents since 1991 in protecting the safety of our children, in designing our Park's renovation, in fundraising over $27,000 for our Park and in designing and planting the Park's community gardens, are poised to complete an incredible effort. When you add the 2,000 plants, shrubs, small trees and special evergreens of this planting to the 20,000+ plants already in our community gardens, we're sure our park's community gardens are the biggest in Jersey City and quite possible are the largest community gardens in the Garden State of New Jersey. But we need lots of help on April 30. Please come from 10 a.m. on and bring as many friends as you can. If you have a spaded shovel or gloves, bring them. There will be live music playing in the gazebo while we plant. Pizza and soda will be served to all Park helpers. Since 1993, the Federal Government has granted the Friends of Van Vorst Park, Inc. 501(c)(3) status as the group in charge of restoring and protecting historic Van Vorst Park. This means that all donations are tax deductible. If you wish to volunteer, make a donation or ask any questions, please call 433-5127. Co-Chairman Clifford Waldman, Ph.D Friends of Van Vorst Park
