Dear Editor:

We would like to applaud the over 14,000 Hobokenites who exercised their voting rights on Tuesday. By the time you read this, the historic cliffhanger race for President and Vice President of our country may have been resolved and, when so, we welcome our new leader. To all those who say, "My one vote doesn't count," here is proof that your vote does count.

Our gratitude goes to those who stood in line for hours at Hoboken's polls, found time in their busy schedules to acknowledge their rights as citizens of our great city. We also want to welcome Hoboken's newest voters who also helped put Jon Corzine in the U.S. Senate, and re-elected Hoboken's dear friend Robert Menendez to the United States Congress.

In May 2001, Hobokenites will have a new opportunity to set these same records. Last year, when we joined forces, our goal was to represent all facets of Hoboken's diverse population and give everyone representatives on the City Council that understand the needs of minorities, business owners, laborers, Wall Street professionals, renters and house and condo owners. So far we have been successful.

We're looking forward to the 2001 local election for Mayor and Council At Large. For those of you who found that you weren't registered at your present address and were unable to vote, or if you have moved and are not sure how to ensure your voting rights at this next critical election, please call us. Our phone numbers are in the front of the Hoboken telephone book, in the Hoboken Government section. We'll help you to get registered, and keep the enthusiasm going. Join with us in this opportunity to prove to the current machine that every resident of Hoboken is a true Hobokenite.

Dave Roberts, Ruben Ramos, Jr., and Tony Soares
