A Hoboken Fire Department truck from Fire Engine Company Number Two was stuck in a hole on the road on Willow Avenue and Eighth Street on July 18. The driver of the truck told police he was unable to move the vehicle after a side rear tire sunk into the asphalt, according to police. The Department of Public Works was notified and a tow truck was sent to lift and free the truck from the hole. Public Works also temporarily covered the hole with a metal plate, which is soon to be filled by the city's water department, police said.
A purse lost and found
A Hoboken woman walking on Washington Street between Ninth and Tenth streets found a tan and black purse on the sidewalk on July 18. She took it to police headquarters, where police found a cellular telephone, a credit card wallet and a palm-held computer in the purse. Police then called the owner of the purse, who was soon to arrive at police headquarters to claim her purse. The owner did not report anything missing from her purse.
Man arrested during vehicle stop
Eric Martinez of Jersey City was arrested July 19 at 12:35 a.m. during a motor vehicle stop, police said. Martinez was stopped at 62 Jefferson St. in Hoboken. He was seated in the front passenger seat of the car along with his friend who was driving. After a background check, the arresting officer discovered that Martinez had an existing arrest warrant with the Jersey City Police Department for failure to appear in court, police said. He was later transported to the Jersey City Police Department, according to police.
Gone in 60 seconds
A woman from Sparta, eating dinner with a friend at a local bar in Hoboken on July 18, reported that her black Kenneth Cole Reaction purse, which hung from a bar stool, was stolen. She told an officer at police headquarters that she remembered someone brushing up on her while she was at the bar. The woman had about $12 in cash in addition to her credit cards, house keys, driver's license and cosmetics. The case is under investigation, police said.
