Future Women of Distinction honorees are older Girl Scouts from the Council, who have been selected for their motivation and accomplishments. These young women already demonstrate strong leadership skills at school, withing their communities, and withing the Girl Scout movement.
Cristina, 16, and a junior at North Bergen High School, is a member of Senior Girl Scout Troop 2380 in North Bergen. For the last 2½ years, Cristina has served as an assistant to the leader of Brownie Girl Scout Troop 2305, also in North Bergen, as well as working as a Junior Counselor at the Oval Girl Scout Day Camp in South Orange last summer. An "A" student, Cristina fills several leadership roles at school including President of her Junior Class, President of Homeroom Reps and President of the Prom Committee. Cristina also tutors fellow students in her spare time. Cristina credits her Girl Scouting experience with helping her to develop and strengthen her leadership abilities, and is pleased to be able to make a positive difference in the lives of many people. Cristina embodies the qualities of leadership, determination and self-motivation that will enable her to continue to serve her community as Today's Girl -- Tomorrow's Leader. Mistress of Ceremonies for the Gala and Silent Auction is Gloria Rojas, former reporter with CBS Channel 2 and current Girl Scout troop leader in Summit. A jazz quarter from the Summit High School Jazz Band will play during the reception. The Gala Committee, Faith Taylor, Chair, seeks auction items for the silent auction, as well as ads for the Ad Journal, sponsorships and underwriters. The event is open to all well wishers, and checks maybe sent to GSCGEHC, Gala Committee, 120 Valley Road, Montclair, New Jersey 07042. Individual tickets are $150 per person. Gala and Silent Auction proceeds help fund Girl Scout programs and resources such as volunteer training, summer camp, sports clinics, and science workshops to over 11,000 members in the thirty-five communities served by the Girl Scout Council.
