In 2004, the DeBaun Auditorium will celebrate the art of dance with a new lineup from their popular show Sweat. The avant-garde movement and abstract intense modern dance series will be performed on Jan. 23, 24 at 8 p.m.
It will feature performances from Dana Doggett Dance, The Odonata Dance Project, Jessica Bonenfant, Keila Cordova Dances, Mindy Eve Myers, Miho Konai, and Chris Ferris and dancers.
Chris Ferris, the show's organizer, said in a previous interview, Sweat has evolved through the years. Now entering its fourth season, Sweat evolved from pop modern dance, to more conceptual specific high-intensity performances for the stage.
"Sweat can be subtle and extreme. It's a funny affair with a wide variety of dances," Ferris said. "Performers explore endless possibilities during their sets."
One of the highlights of Sweat's performance will be The Odonata Dance Project's repertoire. It mirrors the styles of two different rhythms, without destination and without end.
Karen Schotter, DeBaun's general manger, described Sweat as an unreal experience of dance transcending movement and emotion.
"It is a remarkable show and that is why it has lasted for so long," Schotter said, recently.
The performances by Mindy Eve Myers and the Keila Cordova Dances are more traditional collaborations incorporating very little modern dance atmospheric movement. They will delight audiences with a high-energy ensemble of well-known sets, which have been made popular through the years.
"This Sweat is truly one of a kind," Schotter.
The DeBaun Auditorium is located on Castle Point on Hudson at the Stevens Institute of Technology campus in Hoboken. Tickets are $12. For information call (201) 216-8937 or visit www.debaun.org.
