Heading the list of honorees is St. Peter's Prep senior forward Ted Yager, who not only makes a repeat appearance on the All-Area team, but has been named as the 2005 Hudson Reporter Player of the Year.
Yager led the Marauders to the HCIAA Coviello championship, the school's first county crown since 1999. He was the team's leading scorer with 18 goals and seven assists and was the most instrumental goal scorer in the league, scoring many of his goals in crucial HCIAA Coviello games.
"He was a legitimate force up front, and the first we've had in a while," said St. Peter's Prep head coach John Irvine. "He couldn't be ignored. Even though teams marked him as well as they could, he still managed to put 18 in. Ted also helped us with our production in the midfield, because people were so focused on him. All of his goals were important ones for us."
Yager's teammate, senior Will Griffin, was named as the Reporter Defender of the Year. The two were selected to play in the prestigious Senior All-Star Showcase, with most of the top players in New Jersey, this weekend at Toms River North High School. Yager and Griffin will play for the North I All-Stars, who will play the Central All-Stars.
The other three returning honorees are defender Danny Garcia of Bayonne, midfielder Jesse Vanegas of North Bergen, and midfielder Marcio Uhalde of Memorial.
For leading his team back from a 1-6 start and practically having to rebuild his team from scratch in the process, veteran Emerson head coach Angelo Avella gets the nod once again as the Hudson Reporter Coach of the Year.
Avella took his team back to the HCIAA Coviello title game after the horrific start and gave it a try for a fourth straight league title, only to be denied in the finale by the Marauders of St. Peter's Prep.
