Fed up with flyer

Dear Editor,

On my way home from work on March 13th I exited the Path train where I was approached by a young man who handed me a flyer. I grabbed the flyer and proceeded to walk home only to be appalled by the contents of the flyer. The flyer was from Dawn Zimmer who is running for Fourth Ward Councilperson. On the flyer there were pictures of New Orleans and stated with global warming on the rise we should act before it's too late. What occurred in New Orleans was a natural disaster that no community could have prevented. I couldn't believe that Dawn Zimmer had the audacity to compare the tragedy of New Orleans to the flooding in Hoboken in the 4th Ward. To use one of America's worst natural disasters and one of the most racially divisive situations in recent memory in a local political race in Hoboken is shameful.

As a resident of Hoboken, I am deeply disturbed that political campaigns would exploit death and human misery in order to score points with the electorate. Although I do agree that Global Warming is an issue, I don't agree that a local council race is the proper place to address it. The horror of New Orleans is a tragedy that should not be used for local exploitation.

Thousands of people of different ethnicities were affected and ignored by our government which should not be forgotten and will not be forgiven. We should be praying and helping people from New Orleans not utilizing them for political campaigning in Hoboken.

Sincerely
JF
