Dear Editor:

I would like to thank my family, my supporters and most importantly the people of the 2nd Ward for the wonderful work they did in making my election to the Hoboken City Council possible. My success as an independent candidate was made possible by those who held fast to the belief that there is a better way and dedicated their personal time for the benefit of their neighborhood and for their city.

I would also like to thank outgoing Councilman Richard DelBoccio for his years of service for the 2nd Ward and the people of Hoboken. It is a standard of performance that will remain as a measure of my success as a Councilwoman. My appreciation also goes to Richard Tremitiedi for participating in the process.

The awesome feeling I experienced from knowing the voters in my district had chosen me as a leader is difficult to explain, yet the responsibility that comes with that feeling is clear and sobering to me. This is because in the end the election was not about me, but instead the residents of the 2nd Ward who have entrusted me with their tax dollars, quality of life and dreams. Working together we can set an example by doing our part to put our system of government back on track.

It has always been my belief that common sense and creativity are not diametrically opposed concepts, but instead the two primary elements necessary in making government work for the people it is intended to serve. As your legislator I vow to always be mindful of how to do what best serves the 2nd Ward and the City, regardless of political pressure or intimidation. I have taken a responsibility to stand up for you and intend to follow through on it.

Thank you for your votes and your trust.

Beth Mason
2nd Ward Councilperson Elect
